Dixie Ear Treatment
| |
Ingredients: 16 ounce bottle Isopropyl Alcohol, 4 Tablespoons Boric Acid Powder, 16 Drops Gentian Violet Solution 1%, and a plastic bottle, like the ones you can find for dispensing hair products such as "Clairol."
|
| |
Treatment: Shake the bottle before each use. Flood the ear with solution, gently squirting into the ear, massage the ear gently for about 60 seconds, wipe the ear with a tissue. Flood the ear again on first treatment, wipe with a tissue, and leave alone without massaging. The dog will shake out the excess which can be wiped with a tissue. Note: The Gentian Violet stains fabrics!
|
| |
Frequency of Treatment: Treat 2 times per day for the first week to two weeks depending on the severity of the condition of the ears. Subsequently, treat 1 time per day for the next week to 10 days, then once per month or as needed.

All of these ingredients should be available at a pharmacy. The Boric Acid Powder soothes the ear. The Gentian Violet Solution is an anti-infection agent. The solution appears to work well on any and all ear problems from mites to wax to canker. After the second or hird treatment you can clean out the ear with a Q-tip or cotton balls. Their success rate for this treatment is 95-99%. Those who do not succeed have usually not done the treatment long enough or have not been regular about the treatment. Dogs on the verge of ear canal surgery have been returned to normal with only the regular follow-up treatment to keep the ear healthy. If an infection seems to be remaining in the treated ear after the above course of treatment, you may also have some Pseudomonas bacteria in the site. This can be eradicated by using a gentle flush of raw apple cider vinegar and warm water. Use 2 Tablespoons vinegar to one cup of warm water, twice per week. It has been found that this treatment is effective for treating fungus type infections on the feet and elsewhere on the dog, for cuts on dogs or people. and for hot spots. This solution is for external use only. Do not get in the eyes.

Milk Thistle
| |
Milk thistle, (also known as Silymarin), is commonly used to protect the liver from damage, as well as help the liver regenerate after damage has occurred. Milk thistle can be useful for those who use phenobarbitol, which can be toxic to the liver. The results of numerous studies suggest that silymarin not only protects liver cells by preventing the actions of toxic substances but that it also stimulates protein synthesis to accelerate the regeneration and production of liver cells. Silymarin also has antioxident properties that prevent free radical damage and the formation of damaging leukotrienes. No toxic effects from milk thistle have been reported, but it can produce a looser stool as a result of increased bile flow and secretion. Milk thistle can also have an effect on the absorption of some medications, because the liver is processing the substances more efficiently. Dosage recommendations are usually on each bottle, and should be discussed with an individuals medical practioner, but a general guide offered by some for an adult humans use is 420 mg. of silymarin taken in 3 divided doses daily. If there is no liver damage, and you simply want to protect your liver from damage, it is often recommended that an adult human use around 280 mg. of silymarin daily. Suggested doses of Milk Thistle for Dogs from the newsletter Healthy Pets - Naturally Dog's size Dose as % of adult human dose 5-10# 15% , 11-20# 20% , 21-40# 30% , 41-70# 50%, 71-100# 75%, 100# 100%

MSM - MethylSulfonyIMethane
| |
Sulfur is a component of the proteins necessary for the formation of skin, hair, nails, and muscle. Sulfur is also a component of bones, teeth, and collagen (connective tissue). Sulfur is integral in the formation of bile acids by the liver and insulin by the pancreas. It is the fourth most plentiful mineral in the body and is essential for life. MSM, short for methylsulfonylmethane, is an organic form of sulfur readily absorbed and utilized by the body. MSM is composed of 34% bio-available sulfur, making it the richest source of organic sulfur available. MSM is safe, natural, assimilable food, which assists the body in maintaining adequate sulfur stores. MSM may support the body in regulating insulin production, improving skin smoothness, and elasticity, regulating environmental and allergic sensitivities, enhancing bowel function and liver detoxification, and enhancing respiratory function.
|
| |
Most inorganic forms of sulfur are of little value to the body and may even cause harm. Sulfites found as food additives, are one example. These inorganic forms of sulfur, including sulfa drugs, should not be confused with beneficial organic sulfur compounds such as sulfur containing amino acids and MSM.

| |
Doctors Jacob and Herschler at the Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, Oregon, discovered MSM in the early 1980's.
|
| |
MSM comes from the evaporation of the waters of the Oceans into the rain clouds, and then is present in the rain itself. MSM should be present in all the produce we consume, however it is easily destroyed by any heat, or processing of foods or water treatment plants. Therefore finding MSM in our readily available foods is getting harder to do. The half-life of MSM is only 12 hours when consumed within the body. Therefore supplementation with MSM should be repeated both morning and again in the evening.
|
MSM Applications
| |
Supported by research and multiple patients, MSM in sufficient levels as a dietary supplement, can help and improve the following conditions: Allergic responses, Gastrointestinal Disorders, Reduces the effects of stress, Improves circulation and ehances cell vitality, helps regulate insulin production, improves skin smoothness and elasticity, reduces pain associated with systemic inflammatory disorders, including arthritis, night leg cramps, and migraines. MSM has also shown beneficial in reducing sluggish memory, and symptons of asthma and emphysema, reducing post athletic activity fatigue and improved joint flexibility.
|
| |
The addition of the following synergistic ingredients greatly improves the effectiveness of MSM in many of the above conditions: Vitamin C, Amylase, Cellulase, Lipase, Sucrase, Maltase, Lactase, Bromelain and Amyloglucosidase. The addition of Glucosamine HCL greatly improves the effectivness of MSM for Osteoarthritis.
|
| |
Anima studies suggest that MSM may help lessen parasitic, microbial and fungal infections at levels of 750 to 1500 mg. daily. MSM probably works by competing for receptor sites on the mucous membrane surface thereby blocking parasite adherence.

Olive Leaf Extract
| |
Olive Leaf Firepower: For the record, the researchers at Upjohn found calcium elenolate effective in test tube experiments against the following viruses: herpes, vaccinia, pseudorabies, Newcastle, Coxsacloe A 21, encepthlomyocarditis, polio 1, 2, and 3, vesicular stomititus, sindbis, reovirus, Moloney Murine leukemia, Rauscher Murine leukemia, Moloney sarcoma, and many influenza and parainfluenza types. They found it effective against these bacteria and parasitic protozoans: lactobacillus plantarum W50, brevis 50, pediococcus cerevisiae 39, leuconostoc mesenteroides 42, staphylococcus aureus, bacillus subtilis, enterobacteraerogenes NRRL B-199, E. cloacae NRRL B-414, E. coli, salmonella tyhimurium, pseudomonas fluorescens, P. solanacearum, P. lachrymans, erwinia carotovora, E. tracheiphila, xanthomonas vesicatoria, corynesbacterium Michiganese, plasmodium falciparum, virax and malariae. The researchers credit a number of unique properties possessed by the olive leaf compound for the broad killing power: · An ability to interfere with critical amino acid production essential for viruses. ·An ability to contain viral infection and/or spread by inactivating viruses or by preventing virus shedding, budding or assembly at the cell membrane. ·The ability to directly penetrate infected cells and stop viral replication. ·In the case of retroviruses, it is able to neutralize the production of reverse transcriptase and protease. These enzymes are essential for a retrovirus, such as HIV, to alter the RNA of a healthy cell. ·It can stimulate phagocytosis, an immune system response in which cells ingest harmful microorganisms and foreign matter. The research suggests that this may be a "true anti-viral" compound because it appears to selectively block an entire virus-specific system in the infected host. It thus appears to offer healing effects not addressed by pharmaceutical antibiotics.
