Total Raw Foods Diet

Ideally, I would like to be able to provide whole prey for my dogs (German Shepherds) and allow them the opportunity to decide what is totally edible, to be discarded, or something to "munch on" for recreational purposes. Since this is not something I am able to do, I do my best to provide as much variety in types of animal sources and as much of each animal source as possible.
|
| |
Typically, I include Chicken, Turkey, Beef, Lamb, Pork, Venison, and Fish in my dogs regular diet. Occassionally, I add Goat, Duck, and Rabbit.

Extras

Items I add as "extras" are things like whole eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, leftover vegetables.

Supplements
|
| |
I typically use Salmon Oil capsules for the Omega 3 fatty acid since most foods are high in Omega 6 and low in Omega 3. I include a Vitamin E supplement (d-alpha which is the natural form of vitamin E) which helps stabalize the fat. I use a good probiotic for the "gut friendly" bacteria. Any other supplementation is done based on the individual needs of a particular dog.

Final Notes
|
| |
There are many variations to feeding a raw foods diet and as a result no two diets are the same. Feeding a raw foods diet is not something everyone is willing or able to do. Feeding in a way that mimics what nature intended takes dedication and commitment. Having said that, if you are unable to feed a raw food diet, any addition of fresh foods (animal source) to your dogs diet is a good thing.
